Preliminary figures are derived using MICR (Michigan Incident Crime Reporting) crime statistics reported for the first six months of 2008 from agencies that have jurisdiction for a community with a population of 100,000 or more. Statistics from these agencies are used since they represent the majority of the population for Michigan. The violent crime and property crime totals for these agencies have decreased for the first 6 months of 2008 when compared to previous year’s figures. Note: During the same six month period in 2008, the number of lawfully carried concealed handguns in Michigan increased 7%.
