Arm US Merchant Ships

Jeff Soyer is a very smart guy and runs Alphecca.com which is, “In support of the First and 2nd Amendments,”

I believe that it was Jeff who mentioned that Armed Merchant ships are against International Law. I trust him, and have not researched it any further.

Whoever thought that one up should be hung from a yardarm. How in the hell do you protect yourself if you are unarmed. No wonder the pirates are bold enough to attack huge vessels with little dinky boats. If is time for the Secretary of The Navy to add a new department and category for all ships under the U.S. flag.

USN/Merchant/Armed, would put U.S. Merchant ships under the umbrella of the Navy and they could offer training in the care and firing of the Browning M2 .50 caliber Machine Gun. A week in class and a week on the range with the Fifty and the Pirate threat would soon end. Expecting the U.S. Navy to protect the ships in Pirate waters is like expecting the police to protect you. When seconds count the police will be there in minutes. When time is of the essence the Navy will be there in hours, maybe days.
