Michigan City and the First Amendment

This, as reported at AOL, from AP

BRIGHTON, Mich. -Ticking someone off could get you a ticket in one Michigan city. The Brighton City Council on Thursday approved an ordinance allowing police in the Livingston County community to ticket and fine anyone who is annoying in public “by word of mouth, sign or motions.”
The Livingston County Daily Press & Argus of Howell reports the measure is modeled on a similar ordinance in the Detroit suburb of Royal Oak.
A city attorney says there could be situations where the measure would violate freedom of speech, but that those cases will be reviewed by the city.

I’m sorry, but Isn’t FREEDOM OF SPEECH MEANT to protect one from what OTHERS find ANNOYING?? Isn’t that the whole point???

To quote another blogger:

Freedom of speech means tolerating that speech we find annoying. In fact, freedom of speech means absolutely nothing if it doesn’t protect annoying speech. Pleasant and unremarkable speech needs no protection from government, after all.

    Great!!!

That looks like a money maker to me. It might be worth a trip down to Brighton just to give every cop that you see the finger in hopes that they will arrest you.

I can get really annoying “by word of mouth, sign or motions.” if there is a large payday at the end of the line.

He is something for the Brighton City Council to chew on. And I put it in print.

    You are dumb bastards.
